I'm a huge nerd, but it's ok. I was reading this article about Verizon possibly switching to the wireless techonlogy that everyone in Europe is using, GSM, and then realized that it was from 2001 and Verizon still hasn't figured it out. All this came up because I wanted to get a Treo, but didn't want to have to switch to T-mobile. Then I was informed that Verizon's phones with email run on a different network and don't have SIM cards, so one couldn't use the phone overseas... they need to catch up. People have clearly been talking about it for a while.

yeah, it's like such a big deal. That's why the mega carriers such as T-Mobile are so much better. The GSM technology is much more versatile and worldwide. But as usual, VErizon is an american company and only thinks of america first. T-Mobile which is German obviously was thinking ahead and used to have the largest all Digital All GSM network in the states as well as one of the largest worldwide. The SIM card technology no longer glues everything to your handset, thus making the handset but an accessory, not so much a necessity. But I'm sure you knew this already, being a T-Mobile customer
